What is an "Encounter?"

We believe that the first step in becoming a disciple is to be free, indeed. Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will SET YOU FREE." (John 8:31-32, NIV). An Encounter Retreat is a weekend in freedom - freedom from habits, bondage, bitterness, wrong thoughts, and past mistakes. At the Encounter, the Lord will set you free through the power of the Cross.

Who will be there?

Each Encounter is led by Austin Powerhouse leaders and staff members.  Men and women attend gender-specific Encounters. There are also gender-specific Encounters for youth.  Encounter groups generally contain between 40 and 60 people, but some Encounters have had up to 100 people in attendance.

Where is the Encounter Retreat held?

All Encounters are currently held at the Austin campus.  At times, the church will hold them off-site.

How do I get ready to go?

You must first register at the information desk or online. We will then follow-up on your request.  Next, you'll attend the Pre-Encounter class at 9am on the preceding Saturday.  The class is usually 3-4 hours.

What is the schedule of the Retreat?

Before you attend your Encounter, you will attend your Pre-Encounter, which prepares you for the retreat.  All Pre-Encounters are held the Saturday before the Men's Encounter.  Men and women are in attendance at the Pre-Encounter.  This is a great time to learn what to expect and ask questions!  Pre-Encounters are only a few hours-long and we provide lunch!  At the Encounter, we typically begin with registration and group assignments at 5pm on Friday evening. There are sessions and activities Friday evening through Saturday evening.
